Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus

The Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus, also known as IOF-PC, was founded in 1981 A.D. as the Institute of Forestry’s Central Campus, one of Tribhuvan University’s five technical institutes. IOF was established in 1947 A.D., as the Nepal Forestry Institute at Singh Durbar, Kathmandu, and later relocated to Suping (BhimPhedi) in 1957 A.D., and Hetauda in 1965. The Institute of Forestry (IOF) was administered by the Department of Forests until July 1972 A.D., when it was absorbed into Tribhuvan University and renamed the Institute of Forestry.

The IOF established the Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus, to fulfill the country’s expanding demand for qualified and competent natural resource managers. Further. the IOF-PC offers two academic programs: a two-year Technical Certificate in Forestry (TCF) and a three-year Bachelor of Science in Forestry (B.Sc.F). In addition to conventional academic programs, it offers short-term national and international training and workshops in forestry and associated fields.

Kathmandu Forestry College

KAFCOL, also known as Kathmandu Forestry College, is a successful and emerging academic institution (a public enterprise) in Koteshwor, Kathmandu, Nepal. Since its inception in 2005 A.D., the College has offered a B.Sc. Forestry program in collaboration with Nepal’s Tribhuvan University. The Nepal Agroforestry Foundation and a group of like-minded professionals and academicians established Kathmandu Forestry College (KAFCOL) to promote quality education and research in the fields of forestry and natural resource management in Nepal. However, over the years, KAFCOL has grown steadily.

Currently, it runs three academic programs:

  • Sc. Forestry (with the affiliation from the Tribhuvan University, Nepal)
  • The Diploma in Forestry (with affiliation from the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), Government of Nepal)
  • Sc. in Geographical Information Science and Systems (GI Science) (in collaboration with the University of Salzburg, Austria)

Kathmandu Forestry College (KAFCOL) is preparing to offer Masters’ level courses in Natural Resources Management and Rural Development (NRM-RD) in collaboration with Tribhuvan University, in order to realize its vision of becoming a “center of excellence” in education and research related to forestry and natural resources management (NRM). KAFCOL has been active in outreach programs that have considerably increased the college’s profile and exposure in Nepal and abroad, in addition to teaching and research. Institute of Forestry, Hetauda Campus

Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Forestry (IOF) is Nepal’s sole professional-level training and workforce preparation institution in the field of forestry and allied natural resource management. IOF now has two campuses, one in Pokhara and the other in Hetauda, where academic programs like the Technical Certificate in Forestry, Bachelor of Science in Forestry, and Master of Forest Science are offered. IOF has expanded and added nine master’s degree programs, as well as M.Phil. and Ph.D.

Currently, it runs two academic programs:

  • SC. in Forestry
  • SC. in Forestry

IOF/TU is also currently collaborating with NORAGRIC of the Agricultural University of Norway (AUN) in implementing the Master of Science in Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture (M.Sc. in MNRSA) program partially at Pokhara. Agricultural and Forestry University

In 2010, the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) was founded in Rampur, Chitwan, Nepal, as the country’s first technical university. The institution aspires to produce highly skilled human resources capable of working on high-quality agricultural research and development. It strives to promote the all-around development of agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, and forestry, with the goal of improving rural people’s socioeconomic conditions through high-quality teaching, research, and extension.

Purbanchal University Institution of Environment and Forestry, known as PUCEF, was founded in 2018 as the university’s sixth constituent college in Gothgaun, Morang, Nepal. PUCEF was established by PU to address the country’s expanding demand for trained and competent natural resource managers. It offers two academic programs: a four-year B.Sc. in Forestry and a two-year Masters in Environmental Administration and Management. It also offers short-term training and workshops on environmental and forestry-related topics in addition to academic programs. Purbanchal University’s Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Forestry is a four-year (8-semester) program. Purbanchal University College of Environment and Forestry now offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Forestry.
