Class 11/12 and SEE’s NEB Grading Scale

Class 11/12 and SEE’s NEB Grading Scale: From the academic year of 2017, the national examination board(NEB) implemented a grading system for Class 10 and Class 12 students. Finally, there won’t be a pass or fail indicator on the SEE and NEB exams. The new grading system for students uses a 4.0-point scale and ranges from Grade A to Grade E. The two criteria theory and practical marks are used to determine the NEB grading scheme. The purpose of the NEB grading system is to relieve unneeded strain on students by evaluating them continuously throughout the year through a series of brief exams rather than one final exam. Through this post, learn more about the class 10 NEB grading system, SEE, and marking method.

Grading Systems for Grades 10 (SEE) and 12 (+2) under NEB

Students must receive passing marks in 7 out of 8 topics in class 10 and 4 out of 5 subjects in class 12 under the new four-point scale grading system in order to advance to the following grade level. The neb board has ruled against recording a pass or fail on a student’s transcript. The new NEB grading scheme will use a four-point scale and assign grades to students from A to E. This grading scheme was introduced to do away with the schools’ practice of listing each student’s numerical grades on their report cards. From one subject to the next, these criteria will be different. Therefore, only subject-specific grades are given to students under the new NEB grading system; no overall grade is given. The table below lists the four-point grading scale that was used to assess pupils’ academic performance.

GPA to percentage conversion for Nepal

The cumulative grade point average, or CGPA, is nothing more than a declaration of subject-by-subject achievement in a SEE and class 12 certificate, which is a continuous and complete review. The average grade a student receives is their GPA. CGPA equals the total grade points earned across the five major topics.

So use the following formula to determine the percentage:

  • Formula:  CGPA X 25%=Percent Achieved in SEE.
  • Formula: GPA X 25% = Percent Achieved in Grade 12.

More Information about the NEB and SEE Grading System

  • In the evaluation of theory/practical papers in other disciplines, you can see numerical scores.
  • In addition to providing numerical scores for the topics covered by external exams, the NEB Board will also provide grades on the mark sheets.
  • Only those topics requiring internal evaluation will grade be displayed.
  • A, B, C, D, and E are the five grading options that are available to display the results.
  • In order to pass the class 10, SEE test, students must receive overall D+ ratings in each topic on both the theoretical and the practical/internal assessment combination.
  • You must receive a least C GPA in both the theory and practical portions of a topic that requires practical work to pass the Senior School Certificate Examination.
  • Simply multiply the overall CGPA by 25 to get the percentage equivalent.

Here are some Advantages & Disadvantages of the CGPA system NEB

Advantages of GPA Disadvantages of GPA
Students may evaluate and quantify their strengths and weaknesses and improve on them with the aid of the GPA system. The NEB GPA does not accurately reflect the students’ performance.
The good thing about NEB GPA is that it lessens the pressure to achieve high scores because the report cards don’t include the real marks. Students typically perform worse due to the new NEB grading system since they are aware that even if they make a few mistakes, they will still receive the desired mark.
