Nepal Mountain Academy (NMA) was established in 2002 AD. The academy is a government organization functioning under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Nepal.
The Academy’s reputation didn’t develop overnight, instead, it is the culmination of years of dedicated effort, resulting in its status as a distinguished educational institution. The academic programs are affiliated with Tribhuvan University’s Faculty of Management.

Bachelors of Mountaineering Studies (BMS)
MBS is a four-year undergraduate program consisting of eight semesters which includes courses like management studies, social science, and pure science, as well as core courses in mountaineering and tourism. The curriculum also includes elective courses and practical, project-based research reports, culminating in a thesis that covers both management and mountain tourism sectors, along with mountaineering.
Masters of Adventure Tourism Studies (MATS)
The program is designed to equip students with the necessary professional skills and knowledge to advance their careers in the fields of mountain and adventure tourism. It places a strong emphasis on imparting expertise in mountain and adventure tourism management, ensuring that students meet professional standards and can compete effectively on both national and international levels.
Masters of Science in Mountain and Mountaineering Science (MSc MMS)
The MSc program aims to develop experts in mountain and mountaineering science who can effectively communicate specialized research on mountain development. The academy has established a scientifically integrated approach to mountain research, with the goal of assisting the government in adopting and implementing mountain development policies.
